JEE Main Chapter Wise Weightage (And Its Limits)
Quick answer

Chapter-wise weightage in JEE Main is not published by NTA โ€” every table you see, including this one, is reconstructed from past papers. Used correctly it tells you what to revise last, not what to skip. The stable pattern: Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Coordination Compounds and General Organic Chemistry appear in essentially every paper, while Mathematical Reasoning, Statistics and Electronic Devices appear once or twice each.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips
  • Weightage is a revision order, not a syllabus filter. With 75 questions across three subjects, a "low weightage" chapter that appears once is still 4 marks โ€” and 4 marks moves your percentile measurably.
  • Because JEE Main runs many shifts, weightage varies between shifts of the same session. A chapter absent from your shift may dominate another.
  • Use weightage to decide what to revise in the final month, never what to leave out in month one.
  • The one genuinely safe deprioritisation is depth: study low-weight chapters to competence, not mastery.

JEE Main chapter wise weightage โ€” frequently asked questions

Does NTA publish chapter wise weightage for JEE Main?
No. NTA publishes the syllabus but not chapter weightage. Every weightage table available, including ours, is reconstructed from analysis of past papers.
Which chapters have the highest weightage in JEE Main?
Calculus and Coordinate Geometry in Maths, Mechanics and Electrodynamics in Physics, and General Organic Chemistry with Coordination Compounds in Chemistry.
Can I skip low weightage chapters in JEE Main?
Not safely. With only 75 questions, a single question is 4 marks, which moves your percentile measurably. Use weightage to set revision order and depth, not to drop chapters.
Does weightage change between JEE Main shifts?
Yes. The exam runs across many shifts and chapter distribution varies between them, which is another reason weightage tables should guide priority rather than exclusion.
Is chapter weightage the same for JEE Main and JEE Advanced?
No. JEE Advanced weights differently and tests greater depth per topic, so a JEE Main weightage table should not be used to plan Advanced preparation.
