Yes — you can take IPMAT Indore without Mathematics in Class 12. Neither IIM Indore nor IIM Rohtak requires Maths as a subject; the eligibility rule is a 60% aggregate (55% for reserved categories) and an age limit of 20. But the Quantitative Ability section is still pitched at Class 11–12 maths, so you take on the syllabus even if you skipped the subject.
This is one of the most-asked IPMAT questions, and the answer splits in two: what you are allowed to do, and what you will have to do about it.

Commerce without Maths, Humanities, Biology-stream students — all eligible. The five-year IPM programme itself teaches quantitative subjects from scratch in the first year.
The part nobody tells you #
The exam does not care which subjects your school made you take. IPMAT Indore devotes 45 of its 90 questions to Quantitative Ability, and IIM Rohtak devotes 40 of 120. That content is Class 11–12 level regardless of whether you studied it.
- The topics you actually need are narrower than the school syllabus: arithmetic, algebra, numbers, basic geometry, permutations & combinations, probability.
- Calculus, matrices, determinants, trigonometry-heavy problems, 3-D geometry — not tested. Much of what makes Class 12 Maths intimidating is irrelevant here.
- Budget 3–4 months to close the gap if you are starting from Class 10 maths, before you begin timed practice.
A realistic catch-up plan #
Step 1: Rebuild Class 10 arithmetic cold #
Percentages, ratios, averages, profit and loss. Everything in the IPMAT arithmetic block is these four ideas wearing different clothes.
Step 2: Add algebra in a fixed order #
Linear equations → quadratics → inequalities → functions → logarithms. Each step depends on the previous one, so resist jumping ahead.
Step 3: Learn the short-answer habit early #
IPMAT Indore's 15 short-answer questions have no options. Students without a maths background lean hardest on back-solving from choices, which is exactly what this section removes.
Step 4: Only then start timed mocks #
Mocks taken on an unfinished base measure your gaps, not your progress. Finish steps 1–3 first.
