Clearing the IPMAT paper is not the offer. IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak both hold a Written Ability Test and Personal Interview after shortlisting, and it carries real weight in the final composite. The WAT is a 15–30 minute essay on a general or current-affairs topic; the PI is a 10–20 minute panel interview built around why management at 18, your Class 12 subjects, and whatever you claim to be interested in. It is the round self-prepared candidates most often lose.
Almost no one publishes usable content about this stage, which is exactly why it decides so many outcomes.

The questions that actually come up #
"Why management at 18?" — the central question of the entire round. A weak answer here is the most common reason strong scorers are not selected. It needs to be specific and yours, not a rehearsed line about leadership.
"Why not engineering / your obvious stream path?" — asked of Science students constantly.
"Tell us about your Class 12 subjects" — expect real questions on your own subjects. Panels probe whether you understood what you studied.
"What are you reading / following?" — name something and expect two follow-ups. Never claim an interest you cannot go two layers deep on.
A current-affairs question — usually economy or a major national story from the last few months.
"Where do you see yourself in ten years?" — answered badly by almost everyone. A specific, modest answer beats an ambitious vague one.
- Panels are talking to 17- and 18-year-olds and they know it. They reward honesty and self-awareness over polish. "I don't know" said cleanly costs you far less than bluffing.
- Prepare a five-line answer to "why management" and then stop rehearsing. Over-rehearsed answers are obvious and count against you.
- Read one newspaper daily for the three months before results. WAT topics and PI current-affairs questions come from the same pool.
- Do at least three mock interviews with someone willing to be uncomfortable. This is the single hardest thing to arrange alone.

Five stories a week with a two-line opinion on each. That page is your entire current-affairs preparation.
Step 4: Sit three mock interviews before results #
Teachers, seniors, a paid module — whichever you can get. Do not wait for the shortlist.
