For IPMAT you need four books, not fourteen: one quantitative aptitude book for concepts and practice, one verbal ability book, one IPMAT-specific question bank with short-answer practice, and previous years' papers. Arun Sharma's Quantitative Aptitude and Wren & Martin are the reliable standards. What most lists get wrong is recommending CAT-level books — several are pitched above what IPMAT actually asks.
Book lists are the easiest content to pad, so here is a short one with an explicit skip list.

- Do the previous papers first, not last. They tell you which chapters to prioritise, which saves more time than any book choice.
- One book per purpose, finished, beats four books started. IPMAT rewards depth on arithmetic and algebra.
- For Verbal, daily reading outperforms any book. A long-form article a day moves comprehension scores more than a comprehension workbook.
What to skip, and why #
CAT-level Data Interpretation books — Indore barely tests DI, and the difficulty level is above what appears.
Arun Sharma Level 3 in full — useful for CAT, mostly beyond IPMAT. Dip in for algebra if you are already scoring well.
Logical Reasoning books if you are only applying to Indore — Indore does not test LR at all. Buy one only if Rohtak is on your list.
Calculus, matrices and trigonometry-heavy Class 12 material — not in the exam.
PDF compilations of "1000 questions" — unsorted question dumps with no difficulty grading teach speed on the wrong questions.
How to use them #
Step 1: Attempt one past paper untimed #
Tag every question by chapter. That tagged list is your reading order.
Step 2: One chapter, concepts then practice #
Read the concept section, then do every Level 1 and 2 question in that chapter before moving on.
Step 3: Add short-answer sets from week three #
Ten typed numerical answers a day from the IPMAT-specific bank. No options.
Step 4: Switch to mocks at the two-thirds mark #
Once arithmetic, algebra and verbal are closed, books become reference material and mocks become the work.
